Remember When – Episode 55

Super Goonies 8

Yes, it’s been a while.  But if it helps, WE MISSED YOU TOO!  And that’s why we’re back with Episode 55 of Remember When.  After a slight, minor, tiny delay due to Real Life, we’ve dusted off our microphones and come back for a fun and spirited conversation!

We kick off the show with a chat about Super 8.  This J.J. Abrams helmed adventure seeks to capture the spirit of Steven Spielberg and The Goonies by taking us back to the era of the late 70’s … but peters out near the end.  We talk about the successes and failures of the movie, and sidetrack into whether or not J.J. Abrams is really as great as Hollywood seems to think he is.

Then we sidestep our way into The Goonies, a timeless piece of 80’s pop culture.  A seminal work from our youth, this film ages like fine wine or good cheese.  In fact, it’s better to say it ages like Karen Allen (listen to the show… you’ll get this joke later)

And since we’re on a J.J. Abrams themed show, we talk about the news of his helming Episode VII, and what we think this means for the future of the Star Wars franchise.  Can our childhood memories be resurrected from the cruel, tortured world of the prequels?  Will we be able to feel proud for this sci-fi epic once again?  And how much lens flare can you fit into a single space epic?

We look ahead at the summer movie season.. there’s a LOT of stuff ahead (like Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Man of Steel) and a lot of stuff that has us worried (like Man of Steel and Kick-Ass 2).

And TV is in a WILD place right now! From the success of House of Cards to the general failure of pretty much every one of the major TV networks, it’s like we’re back in the wild wild west of content programming.

As always, thank you to our fans for your patience and understanding as the duties of both of our Real Lives come up! We’ve missed you and thank you so much for your words of support these past few months. If you’d like to reach us, give us a ring at 714-758-5027 (you can call or text)! Remember When Episode 37

You’ve been living in a dream world

Put on your pajamas and grab a cup of warm milk, because Episode 37 of Remember When is about to take you into the world of dreams.

We kick off our show with our latest “Great Movie Jay Has Never Seen”, discussing the 1980’s camp film “Dreamscape”.  It’s been a quarter of a century since the movie was released in theaters, and Dennis Quaid’s hair has certainly improved since then.  But whether or not Jay’s going to be able to appreciate this piece of nostalgia after all this time is questionable.  Listen in as he talks about the bad decision he made with the movie, as well as why he’s not kicking himself over it.

Then we dive into the Dream Within A Dream, talking about Christopher Nolan’s latest cinematic release, “Inception”.  Written and directed from the muse behind The Dark Knight and Memento, this film has critics raving and audiences walking out of their theaters in wonder.  We sit and offer our opinions on the film, offer our opinion on the ending (and why its various interpretations help the film achieve its brilliance), and rave about the newfound appreciation we have for Tom Hardy.  We also talk about what we think was lacking in the film, and how a second viewing should be mandatory for anyone seeing it.

Finally, we wrap up the show with some talk about our TV viewing habits of late, our thoughts on True Blood… and could a hulking be in the mix?

As always, Remember When continues to grow and thrive thanks to the joy, love, appreciation, and comments we get from our fans. If you enjoy our show, please leave us positive feedback on iTunes. Farewell to LOST

After six years of living together, LOST moved into the afterlife this past weekend.  And with the show’s closure, we’re proud to give you our Farewell to LOST.

We take a look back at the show’s final 2 and a half hours, looking at the finale episode with a fresh viewpoint, clear heart, and an open mind.   Can a show like LOST be wrapped up in a 2 hour story?  Will we find the closure we wanted or needed?  And most importantly, was it worth it?  We talk about what we loved with the finale and what we didn’t enjoy.

Then we go back in time, looking at the course of the show’s history.  We talk about why LOST was important when it started, how significant it was in TV history, and what it meant for the landscape of television programming over the next few years.  We also talk about some of our favorite scenes, our most missed characters, and why Nikki and Paulo are still better off dead, even from a Sideways perspective.

Lastly, we give you a look at the upcoming Remember When schedule.  Even if you’re not a LOST fan and you hate when we talk about it, you don’t want to miss our next two show topics.  At least one of them will be epic.

That TV Show on ABC

After a two month hiatus to focus on bringing a new life into the world, Remember When is proud to be back on your iPods, Zunes, and computers!

We kick off the show by continuing our Scorsese edition of Great Movies Jay Has Never Seen.  Released in 1995 and featuring an all-star cast, Parris previously stated that he expected Jay to like Casino, but not as much as he loved Goodfellas.  Will the prognostications of Parris prove poignant, or will Jay dislike this film?  We sit and talk about the joys of Scorsese’s direction, the writing pace, and the stellar performance of Sharon Stone.

Then we kick into higher gear as we talk about the lead-in to the 2010 Summer movie season, Iron Man 2.  Robert Downey Jr. is back, but is his red suit still firing on all thrusters?  Did the sequel rise above the quality of the original for Jay and Parris, or was this just a so-so offering that could have been better?   And most importantly, how awesome is Scarlett Johansson in tight clothes?   We give you a spoiler-heavy look at Iron Man 2, covering what we liked, what we didn’t like, and more.

Finally, we jump into our continuing discussion on LOST.  As ABC’s hit show draws closer to its finish line, we talk about our increased disappointment over events in the show, the diminished impact of the show’s writing, and what we think could have been improved.  We also talk about our theories for the show’s ending, what we would have liked to see happen, and theorize on what contributed to the collapse of this show’s universe.
