Age of Thrones
“Chewie… we’re home”
And since we know your RSS feed has been feeling a little dusty, we don’t waste a lot of time with the formalities in our latest episode of Remember When. We’ve barely said our Hello’s when we jump into the show content.
Because BOY OH BOY, we have a lot of ground to cover!
Age of Ultron is our first target. It’s been hyped, marketed, teased, and long-sought-after. But after the extensive wait, this movie just can’t meet any expectations. We’re prepared to tear it a new one. We spoil the heck out of this movie.
Then there’s the new season of Game of Snore… er, Game of Thrones. Jay came close to tapping out near the end, and Parris has some pointed thoughts on why this season feels so “off”. And yeah, we tell you all the big story moments here, too.
The fun isn’t limited to those two items, either. At the end of the show, we’re mixing in talk of the new Episode VII teaser, our Ant-Man anticipation (or rather, extreme lack thereof), Netflix’s Daredevil show, the third season of Orange is the New Black, the final season of Mad Men, the premiere season of Better Call Saul…
It’s a show filled with five months of conversation, all wrapped up in an hour. And we jump around a lot with tons of spoilers, but rest assured, we cover a lot of ground.
Fans of our original podcast, UncleGamer Radio…. you might want to pay close attention to those final few minutes of this episode.
We love our fans. We appreciate you tremendously, even when you’re sending us hundreds of email messages asking when the next episode is coming. We do this show because your passion matches ours. Please keep that feedback coming! You can talk to us between shows by emailing us or stopping by our Facebook page.
Planes, Thrones, and Groot
Oh hai! We’re back, and we have so much good stuff for you. Episode 64 starts off with a trip down memory lane as we journey through another Great Movie Jay Has Never Seen. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles may not be the hallmark moment in the careers of John Candy and Steve Martin, but it’s certainly one of the movies that leaves a lasting impression!
With fresh eyes, Jay talks about his journey through this unique road trip flick and how it gave him a new appreciation for some of the comedic elements of these two actors.
After the appetizer, we deliver the main course of this episode… Guardians of the Galaxy! And almost a year after we started to see the first bits of this movie, we’re happy to report that Guardians has (mostly) exceeded our expectations. We’re giving you a lengthy look at Marvel’s latest piece in Phase 2. It feels like Firefly! GROOT! Chris Pratt is unstoppable, and holy cow, that voice acting from Bradley Cooper. Also, GROOT! But it’s not without its flaws, and we’re happy to talk about those at length too. Jay talks about the biggest hiccup for him, and Parris forecasts the next 10 years of Marvel movies.
But it doesn’t end there! Now that Marvel is doing SO well, it brings a Stark light (see what we did there?) onto the DC Universe. With such a rich set of characters and fun stuff, how can they be failing so hard? We give some honest feedback on their underperformance at this year’s Comic-Con and why DC needs to step up their game.
And as our show ends, Jay delivers a proposition that leaves Parris stunned. It’s the great Hulking of 2014. You won’t want to miss this, because it’s about to get … chilly…
Our show exists because of YOU, our listeners! Your positive comments, encouraging feedback, and multiple email messages asking if we’re dead are what help keep the show going. Orange is the New Meth
“Back so soon?”, you ask? Indeed! Remember When is forgoing its usual three month waiting period between episodes with brand new content. As one of our Twitter friends put it: In Parris and Jay time, it’s only been 1 week since the last show!
And in the world of entertainment, a lot has changed in the last seven weeks! Netflix has gone from being the place where you watch reruns of Star Trek Voyager to a major powerhouse with Emmy nominations and some of the best shows on TV.
We spend the early part of the episode loving on Orange is the New Black. This new show from the creator of Weeds is arguably one of the best shows you can watch right now, and is almost certain to be a frontrunner in the 2014 Emmy season. We talk about how we each independently watched the series, then almost immediately watched it a second time, because it’s just SO good!
Once that was done, Jay sat down with the first season of House of Cards to see what the Emmy voters got all worked up about this year, and Parris gets a well deserved “I told you so”. We get philosophical as we chat about the ways Netflix content delivery beats every single avenue of traditional TV networks, how the Netflix model makes sense in an On Demand society, and why binge watching may be a problem in a long term perspective.
AND OMG BREAKING BAD IS BACK! Walter White and Jesse Pinkman grace our TV screens once again, and we can’t wait to talk about the powerhouse of a season opener. Remember to tread lightly here… tons of spoilers.
We end the show with a look back at the disappointing movies that capped out our summer season, and a look forward at what’s in store for 2014 and 2015.
